A Transformative Education: Denver Academy

Dyslexia is a learning disorder, a lifelong condition arising from difficulties in the way the brain interprets speech sounds as they relate to written letters and words.  Dyslexics often struggles read, and yet many with this learning disability have above-average intelligence, and, given the proper opportunities, can be educated to take their rightful place in the world.

Denver Academy's mission is "to inspire diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education."

In support of that mission, Denise Cox, has designed a beautiful bracelet dedicated to those who meet the world of language and reading on challenging terms. Each element of the piece has even thoughtfully chosen  to illustrate the tools required to surmount dyslexia.  Black Onyx is said to provide powerful protection, reverse negative energy, and foster wisdom and self-discipline.  Labradorite symbolizes transformation.  Crystal, the master healer, amplifies energy, clarity, and calm.  The single prism bead reminds us that light, through refection, yields all the dazzling and diverse colors of the spectrum.  In contrast, the five stones of each of the other materials illustrate that one in five have some form or degree of dyslexia.

Dangling from the bracelet is a globe, universal symbol of the classroom, and the wide world that is our ultimate school.

In addition to supporting the mission of Denver Academy, Denise Cox designed this bracelet to honor her friend Jessie, for her "courage to overcome and be her best."
